The Three Branches of Structural Pest Control
  • Branch 1The practice relating to the control of household and wood-destroying pests or organisms by fumigation with poisonous or lethal gases.
  • Branch 2The practice relating to the control of household pests excluding fumigation with poisonous or lethal gases.
  • Branch 3The practice relating to the control of wood-destroying pests or organisms by the use of insecticides or structural repairs and corrections, excluding fumigation with poisonous or lethal gases.

  • Renewal DeadlinesSPCB: Private applicators: every 3 years (June 30th) Commercial applicators: every 2 years CPDR: December 31st (every two years)
  • Applicator LicensesRenewal notices are mailed approximately two months before the license's expiration date. Applicators have a renewal fee of $10 with a delinquent fee of $5. The renewal form and fee payable to the Structural Pest Control Board (SPCB) are to be postmarked on or before the license's expiration date or they will be considered delinquent. A license will remain on delinquent status for 90 days. If a license is not renewed by the end of the 90 day delinquent period, the license will be cancelled. The renewal form must be signed and dated, you must declare how many hours of continuing education you completed (if required), and complete the address section if your mailing address has changed. The renewal form is not available online. If you do not receive your renewal form by June 1st, contact the Board's licensing unit to request that a duplicate notice be generated. Make sure to complete either the change of address form or the transfer of employment form to ensure the Board has current and accurate information.

  • OperatorA structural pest control Operator is any individual who is licensed by the board to secure structural pest control work, identify infestations or infections, make inspections, submit bids for or otherwise contract, in behalf of a registered company. A pest control Operator shall not contract for pest control work or perform pest control work on his or her own behalf. An Operator performs the same duties of a Field Representative except that an Operator can own and operate their own company or act as a qualifying manager for another owner. An Operator can be licensed in Branch 1, Branch 2, and/or Branch 3.
Continuing Education RequirementsContinuing education is required to keep a pest control license in California (SPCB). California (SPCB) licensed pest control applicators must complete continuing education units (CEUs) annually to keep their license active and stay current with industry practices and regulations.
  • APPLICATOR'S CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTSThere are continuing education requirements for Applicators. Licensees are required to complete 4 hours of Rules & Regulations, 6 hours in Pesticide Use and Application, and 2 hours of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). IPM courses are indicated by the classification code "m" on the List of approved Applicator Continuing Education courses. Renewal notices are mailed approximately two months before the license's expiration date. Applicators have a renewal fee of $10 with a delinquent fee of $5. The renewal form and fee payable to the Structural Pest Control Board are to be postmarked on or before the license's expiration date or they will be considered delinquent. A license will remain on delinquent status for 90 days. If a license is not renewed by the end of the 90 day delinquent period, the license will be cancelled.

  • FIELD REPRESENTATIVES AND OPERATOR'S CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTSThere are continuing education requirements for Field Representatives and Operators. Licensees are required to complete 8 hours of Rules & Regulations, 4 Technical hours in each branch the individual is licensed in, and 4 additional hours. Field Representatives and Operators licensed in branch 2 and/or 3 are required to gain 2 hours of Integrated Pest management (IPM) as part of their 4 additional hours. IPM courses are indicated by the classification code "m" on the list of Board Approved Courses.
